Abstract: The Asian crisis of 1997 had a severe impact on the financial condition of South Asian countries. The scale of the financial distress in the Southeast Asian economies was large by any standard. The revival strategies adopted by these countries were similar. As part of their efforts to revitalise the economies, they all focused on setting up debt restructuring institutions. However, by mid-2004, the majority of agencies were either closed or were about to pull their shutters down. |
